So You Think You Can Dance TV Show

With passion, with herte, with brilliance, they danceth.   This past week on Canada’s  “So You Think You Can Dance”  the competitors gave us some beautiful moments.   We hath chosen two dances that were pieces of art.

It is of course possible to dance a prayer.  ~Glade Byron Addams

Nico Archambault and Arassay Reyes danced Theatre to the song “Somebody to Love”  by Queen.   The choreographer, Melissa Williams, described the narrative of the dance.   The story is about a girl at her wits end and her Guardian Angel decides to become human to save her life.   Nico plays the heartfelt angel, costumed in black feather wings,  and Arassay plays the despondent girl with wild agony.

Watch this beautiful performance of raw emotion.

How can we know the dancer from the dance?  ~William Butler Yeats

Francis Lafreniere and Natalli Reznik danced a Paso Doblé to the song España Cañí by the Manhattan Pops Orchestra.

Paso Doblé or pasodoblé is a dramatic style of dance that actually originated in southern Spain , but is modeled after the sound, drama, and movement of the Spanish bullfight.    Paso doblé means “double step” in Spanish.  It is danced to the characteristic march music used for procession at the beginning of a corrida ( bullfight).

The male dancer plays the role of the matador, while the female dancer plays the role of a cape  (the red canvas of the toreador)  or the bull or a flamenco dancer.   Haughty bold pride is expressed by the man and the woman uses her agility to keep a self- confident distance to him without totally surrendering.   Both exude power and elegance.   The Paso Doblé is also called the “Dance of the Master”.

Watch Natalli and Francois dance a brilliant Paso Doblé choreographed by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin

We thanketh these artists for painting a story with their performances.

You can dance anywhere, even if only in your heart.  ~Author Unknown

Dear Knights I preye that you may dance tonight, even if only in your heart.   And may your Guardian Angel find you in your moment of despair and free you.

Lyrics to “Somebody to Love” by Queen

Can anybody find me somebody to love?
Each morning I get up I die a little
Can barely stand on my feet
Take a look in the mirror and cry
Lord what you’re doing to me
I have spent all my years in believing you
But I just can’t get no relief, Lord!
Somebody, somebody
Can anybody find me somebody to love?

I work hard every day of my life
I work till I ache my bones
At the end I take home my hard earned pay all on my own –
I get down on my knees
And I start to pray
Till the tears run down from my eyes
Lord – somebody – somebody
Can anybody find me – somebody to love?

(He works hard)

Everyday – I try and I try and I try –
But everybody wants to put me down
They say I’m goin’ crazy
They say I got a lot of water in my brain
Got no common sense
I got nobody left to believe
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

Oh Lord
Somebody – somebody
Can anybody find me somebody to love?

Got no feel, I got no rhythm
I just keep losing my beat
I’m ok, I’m alright
Ain’t gonna face no defeat
I just gotta get out of this prison cell
Someday I’m gonna be free, Lord!

Find me somebody to love
Can anybody find me somebody to love?
