The Golden Age of Radio Mastered the “Theatre of the Mind”
Old Time Radio
There was a time when the radio shined into the doorways of almost every home, carrying the best of news and entertainment. This Golden Age of Radio took place from the early years of radio in the early 1920’s till the 1950’s, when television arrived on the scene.
Old Time Radio (OTR) was a universe of genres. Comedy, drama, mystery, thrillers, adventure, western, music concerts, news and commentary, quiz shows, sports broadcasts and science fiction and horror, orbited the airwaves with often the highest calibre of talent. In the beginning the Old Time Radio shows were presented live. These productions would consist of excellent scripts, first-rate actors, and sound effects to bring the stories to life.
During the Great Depression and World War II, people turned to their radios for news and for comfort. It was like a lifeline to them.
If you suffer with constant pain, you must find lifelines in order to survive. Often with pain, you end up in a type of prison and the pain dictates the rules. You are cut off from the world and your mind is left to cope with this trauma of isolation and suffering.
If you cannot find a way to cope, your mind will go down a darker path. The frustration and anger and hurt can take over and that will hurt you even more.
When I was first introduced to Old Time Radio, it was like being beckoned into another world. This world of Old Time Radio was called “Theatre of the Mind.”
“The grandest theatre in the world cannot match the one between our ears. Radio provides the players and the plot, the mind supplies the rest.”
My dearest Knights, if you cannot move, or cannot use your eyes, or cannot find any joy, or can barely think with the pain, then know there is something that can reach through the bars and into your imagination and your heart.
This week we will begin our journey back to the Golden Age of Radio. ( Well, actually if thou is in Camelot, then one should ride forward in time.) I pray that these beautiful programs can bring some beauty to your landscape of pain. Don’t underestimate the power of the mind. Remember you are in Camelot.
Faithfully Yours,
Lady Sharon
