Karan Casey’s Soulful ‘A Chomaraigh Aoibhinn O (Sweet Comeraghs)’ of Ireland

Untitled Document

Sweet Comeragh

On your shining streams and your leafy woodlands
Your honeyed slopes and your gleaming meadows
My heart fills with love for all of them surely
Sweet Comeragh

Dost thou dremist of a nightingale that singeth swete? Under an Irish moon, an Irish voice so gentil, yet so strong singeth for our hertes this nyght. Come forth and reste dearest friends of Camelot.

Let the enchanted Karan Casey sing "A Chomaraigh Aoibhinn O (Sweet Comeraghs)" in Gaeilge (Irish Gaelic) for thee. A love song for Sweet Comeragh.

The song is a lament for the beauty of the mountains, streams and meadows of Comeragh in County Waterford in Ireland. It was composed by Fr. Maurus Ó Faoláin who was born and raised at the foot of the Comeragh Mountains.

This haunting song was recorded by Solas on "The Words That Remain". It was also part of the great series "The Highland Sessions" made by Pelicula Films, a series that featured Scottish and Irish artists.

As the pale moon lights our way, we feel so blessed to have met the exquisite Irish Karan Casey. Her voice now is part of Camelot.

With heartfelt blessings,

Lady Sharon
Scribe of Camelot

A Chomaraigh Aoibhinn Ó Lyrics
Written by Maurus Ó Faoláin; arranged by Solas

My heartfelt blessings on your valleys and mountains
Sweet Comeragh
And on your cheerful people, so naturally kind
Sweet Comeragh
On your shining streams and your leafy woodlands
Your honeyed slopes and your gleaming meadows
My heart fills with love for all of them surely
Sweet Comeragh

Your rugged peaks are a handsome sight
Sweet Comeragh
As the rising sun sets them aflame
Sweet Comeragh
Cliffs and steep slopes in every direction
Like a satin weave from a magic loom
As the dew falls from the heavens high
Sweet Comeragh

I was a while away from your beauty
Sweet Comeragh
Slaving so hard in a foreign land
Sweet Comeragh
Base work it was, just making a living
Far from my home ‘neath the shade of your mountains
So I came back to you, the flower of the Déise
Sweet Comeragh

  1. Hello to Ireland, this is Christoph from Hamburg. I fell in love with this song years ago. My girlfriend and me are going to marry in August 2011 here in Hamburg. We would love to find somebody who is able to perform” A Chomaraigh Aolbhinn O” a capella in the church.
Is there by any chance any singer living near by/not so far away who is able to sing in Gaelic?
    Suggestions are much appreciated!!!
    Thanks and greetings from Germany
