Lack of Coal at Madison High – Our Miss Brooks

"You don’t understand Miss Brooks..Let me put it this way..in the stockyards when they want the sheep to run a certain way they don’t send out a little lamb out to guide them. They send an old goat." ~ Walter Denton telling Miss Brooks why she needs to help them.

Miss Brooks is returning to school after vacation and finds Madison High is in a chilled state. Walter Denton, Harriet Conklin and Mr. Boynton all request Connie Brook’s assistance to ask the Principal, Mr. Conklin for extra funding to help the school. With her ingenuity and their unique support, Mr. Conklin does not have a chance.

Originally Broadcast January 9, 1949.

Eve Arden who starred as Miss Brooks was actually the third choice to play the role. Shirley Booth and Lucille Ball were the first and second choices of Harry Ackerman, CBS’s West Coast director of programming. We are happy Eve became Our Miss Brooks.
