So You Think You Can Dance – Kathryn and Legacy Dance with Fear

Kathryn and Legacy Dance with Fear

Last week on the TV show, “So You Think You Can Dance”, the Canadian choreographer,    Stacey Tooky, created a brilliant contemporary piece with the dancers Kathryn McCormick and Legacy Perez.

Stacey explained that the piece is about a woman struggling with fear. Legacy plays “Fear” itself.    Dancing to Patti LaBelle’s song “2 Steps Away”,   Kathryn and Legacy immersed themselves  into the piece, bringing visualization and emotion to this epic struggle.

Watch Kathryn and Legacy on “So You Think You Can Dance”.

As we watch,    we see the complexity and power of this intricate relationship. We run from Fear but it catches us. When we are alone,   it can carry us to very dark places.   But, it also can carry us through unknown waters, keeping us safe from harm. There are moments we feel we are free from Fear, but Fear always finds us again. There is no escape.

There is a gracious light,  though, among the clouds of grey. In defeat we can find surrender. It is then the hand of Fear reaches out to teach our hearts how to dance.

We thank Stacey,   Kathryn and Legacy for creative montage, that moves our hearts.
